I purchased this fan to replace one that finally failed that I used beside my bed while sleeping. I recieved and easily assembled the fan, turned it on, and barely heard a sound. I put my hand up to it and felt the breeze and was excited! My excitement went away quickly as it began to make a clicking sound… I turned it off, back on… clicking. I turned it upside down and shook it… clicking sounds. So I returned it (the seller was wonderful) and received a new one, days later. Took it out of the box but didnt assemble it and heard something rattle inside. I tilted it and saw a white plastic dowel rolling around in it. I dumped it out and plugged in the fan which then make a clicking sound immediately – different than the first but clicking loudly. So I’m returning them both for a refund.

So initially I had bought this unit and had a bad experience with it. It had just stopped working after a couple of weeks. Surprisingly enough Miallegro is pro-active in helping their customers. They replaced it and shipped it for free. Not only that, but their customer service is actually polite. As we all know, lots of companies have rude customer service. I just had to get that out of the way in case any of you have issues with your fan.

Now onto my review of the product. I was looking for this particular type of fan because the fans that oscillate the entire tower always end up giving me problems. With the inner oscillation, I find it to be more reliable. This 2nd unit has been just that. Also the fan is rather quiet on the low setting. The medium and high settings on the fan move a large amount of air without the annoying loudness that most fans have. Unless you’re a light sleeper, you’ll be able to sleep with this on. If you have issues with limited floorspace, you’ll be pleased to know that this fan takes up an extremely small amount of space for the job it does. Lastly, this fan just looks cool. It’s sleek, has that l.e.d. display, and the display slides back to reveal the remote’s location.

Overall I’d have to say that I’m quite pleased with this fan. It does the job it’s designed to do and it does it well. For being a brand that isn’t as well-known as the major brands, in my case it stands above them.

I bought this fan to cool down my office since the sun tends to bake it in the afternoon. So far, I’ve really liked its functionality and design. It does a great job of pushing lots of air and goes well with a modern interior.

It doesn’t blow air high up, but for an office or living room it’s fine since you want the air lower anyways. One feature that I really like is the timer – I forget to turn it off at the end of the day, but I can set the timer in the morning to shut off after 8 hours.

I sent this air conditioner back because it was caved in on one side. Definitely did not happen in shipment as the box was intact. Had to go thru the trouble to return it. Amazon made the return easy but I still had to drive this thing to the Post office and place it on the counter! FUN! I would only buy an air conditioner from a store but I guess the same thing could have happened there. The box looks fine, then you get it home, cut the whole box open and find that it’s caved in on one side! I received an email from Amazon that I should be receiving my refund shortly.

I like the air conditioner. I was nervous from reading the reviews that it would be very noisy, but it seems no noisier than any other air conditioner.

I have a “cage” around my window (bars, which are commonplace in city apartments) so I needed something super shallow. This one was far too deep, but I did something that the manufacturer probably wouldn’t recommend: I duct taped all the vents that would be inside my apartment and then used insulation around the screens and in the window to make a barrier. I was afraid that this might reduce the effectiveness of the unit, but it has worked fine all summer, even in very hot and humid conditions.

Though I wouldn’t mind it being even colder, the BTUs are appropriate and my room is very cold. I would recommend this air conditioner as one that works well and has moderate noise — even when jury-rigged.

Your review of this product is essentially libel. You have not used it or tested it yourself. You do not understand the mechanism by which the device works. Based on your review, you have a poor understanding of physics in general. First of all, the electromagnetic spectrum includes radio frequencies; radio waves are electromagnetic waves. The device would radiate energy, but the two coils would also produce magnetic fields. Each coil is in a solenoid shape.

You give steel as an example of a shielding material, but copper is a better shielding material than steel because of its higher conductivity. This implies that the device does not achieve the conditioning effect primarily with radio waves. Instead it is likely that the conditioning effect in the water is caused by the magnetic fields generated by the coils. The magnetic field can exist inside the pipe whether it is made of copper, PVC, or steel (stainless, galvanized, etc.). Since steel is a ferromagnetic material, it will have a different permeability depending on the specific alloy, which can change the strength of the magnetic field.

Your comparison to some old TV show is completely misleading and irrelevant. I suggest you get a university level physics book or an electrical engineering book on electromagnetics to educate yourself on basic electromagnetic theory. Most importantly, actually test the product yourself before leaving such a negative review.

I was rather skeptical of this product but was convinced by the reviews to give it a go. First installation is really easy – just make sure you go correctly clockwise or anticlockwise as explained in the instructions. My kettle proves that this product works – I used to have white flakes in it every time I emptied it out and now they are no longer there. I live in an area with hard water and as I can’t bear to lug around the bags of heavy salt for the softener that is already in place I was going through appliances at a scary rate. Thank goodness for this easy, cheap and effective solution.

I was all set to buy one of these units, until I re-read the manufacturer’s theory of operation and then rationalized why some reviewers stated that this device didn’t meet their expectations. Here are some possible reasons.

The external wires are described as antennas. Both the installation pictures and the installation manual indicate that the antenna leads are open-ended and don’t form a closed current loop. Thus, unlike other electronic water softeners, this device is not a basic electro-magnet. When you read “electro-magnetic” in the description, do not think of this device as an electronic equivalent to the permanent magnet devices that clamp onto the water pipe. The magnetism created by Clearwave is much, much weaker than that.

Instead of coupling energy to the water supply by using a basic electro-magnet, this device relies on radio frequency (RF) energy.

The reason that varied results are being reported by reviewers may be due to how the RF is affected by application differences. The material content of the pipe makes a difference (steel vs. plastic vs. copper) in how efficiently the energy is transferred (the useful energy is combating against parasitic counterforces such as reflectivity, permeability, electrical conductivity and stray capacitance). These counterforces vary depending on the pipe’s material.

The diameter of the pipe is also a factor (albeit to a lesser extent), as the length of the antenna wire provided with this device was optimally tuned for a specific diameter of pipe. More or less turns of the antenna wire around a different diameter of pipe de-tunes the optimum performance of this device.

Because of the above, I’m tending to favor the type of electronic water softener where both ends of the pipe wrap wire connect back to the device, thus forming a very basic electro-magnet (examples: the Little Plumber on Amazon.com, or the Vitasalus). It is my belief that the electro-magnet could be powered, such that the parasitic counterforces would have less of an effect; so I’m more likely to get optimum performance with less dependency on pipe material or diameter.

There is much debate on Internet blogs if this technology works. No matter which device type I eventually decide on, I’ll have to be very objective when assessing its effectiveness; and not wishing too hard for the system to work, as exemplified by the below:

Let me just point out some things that some reviewers are whining about.

1. Noisy – Very normal, You think a window unit is quiet?

Solution – Get an outside unit and pay big bucks to the installer.

2. Vent is a pain – Are you kidding me? A 10 year old can work around

fitment issues!

Tips – make sure the screws from the hose connector to actual vent is

secured by a screw with bushings to hold it in place.

- make sure you put a stainless screen outside to prevent objects

from going into the unit.

3. Reliability – Come on lets face it, everything breaks including/especially my heart.

Tips – Dont fall in love too easy

I purchased the air conditioner covers only for the winter months to keep the cold out of our daughter`s room. Honestly, I expected something more elaborated than the two layers of styrofoam foil and fabric, but they do the job. You have to tape everything together and that`s it. For what you get I find the item a little overprized -with a little bit of skill you could sew something like this at home – but it is not bad.

In addition to the points made by the prior reviewer (except I was able to get the tape to stick), it is impossible to put the quilted cover on – the elastic is WAY too tight. If you get the next size, the elastic is still very tight – but now the cover is too big and looks awful. Maybe 4 strong hands are needed to get the thing on, which is absurd. Buy bubblewrap or save thin foam – and masking tape would probably be fine. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!
